Day-by-Day Itinerary
We’ll pick you up from your hotel early in the morning in a private van, and travel through the Andes Mountains. After about 3 hours, we will have breakfast in Paucartambo.The trip will continue into the Cloud Forest, where the scenery and climate change quickly. In the Cloud Forest, we will stop and look for wild animals like monkeys and birds, including the bright-red Andean Cock of the Rock. We will descend into the Low Jungle, and arrive at our first lodge near Patria.
We’ll start the day with breakfast at our lodge, getting on the road early to make the most of the day. We’ll visit Machu Wasi Oxbow lake, where you’ll cruise on a balsa raft and see exotic-looking Hoatzin birds, among others. We’ll spend the day enjoying the journey in the jungle, looking for animals and birds along the way. We will make a stop at the Shintuya hot springs to soak in the naturally warm water, with jungle all around. Late in the afternoon, we’ll arrive to Nuevo Eden, and our very own bungalow, La Casa Escondida. You’ll have some time to rest and enjoy the beautiful house before dinner. After dinner, your guide will show you the jungle after dark: tarantulas, snakes, spiders, frogs, and other creepy crawlies. You will sleep in the bungalow.
Early in the morning, we’ll load into a boat and start the journey down river. We’ll travel for 4 or 5 hours on the High Madre de Dios river, searching for animals on the riverbanks like capybaras, caimans, turtles, and if we’re very lucky we can see the elusive Jaguar in this part of the Manu National Park. In the afternoon, we’ll visit a lake called White Lake where we’ll search for giant river otters, caimans, see tons of birds. We’ll arrive at Blanquillo late in the afternoon and set up camp.
Very early in the morning, we’ll make our way to the spectacular Blanquillo Clay Lick, where we will get to see an abundance of macaws and parakeets having their breakfast at the clay lick. Later in the day, we will visit lake Camungo, searching for giant river otters and other animals, and climb an observation tower where we will look at birds from their own point of view. This evening will be a campsite dinner and camping.
In the morning, we will get back on the boat and had upriver back to Nuevo Eden. Along the way we will search for capybaras, a variety of birds, caimans, and jaguars. When we arrive to Nuevo Eden, you’ll have some time to relax, dinner will be in the bungalow.
We’ll leave the Bungalow early in the morning, loading up our truck to travel back to Cusco. During this travel day, you’ll get to enjoy the views and variety of three distinct climates and ecosystems. We can make stops along the way as desired.
