Day-by-Day Itinerary
We'll pick you up from your hotel early in the morning in a private van, and travel through the Andes Mountains. Breakfast is in the charming town of Paucartambo. You can enjoy a hot drink, eggs, pancakes, juice, and more.
The trip will continue into the Cloud Forest, where the scenery and climate change quickly. In the Cloud Forest, there will be chances to explore and look for wild animals like monkeys and birds, including the bright-red Andean Cock of the Rock.
In the late afternoon, we'll arrive at our first lodge for some time to relax, dinner, followed by a night walk.
We will depart the first lodge after breakfast, continuing the road-trip style adventure through the area of Kosñipata: the first villages you will visit in the Manu National Park. You will have a chance to stop at a pharmacy and visit a market if you wish: please let your guide know. Then, we will make some short visits on the way to Atalaya where we will embark on a river boat to the second lodge. You'll have some time to rest before exploring the surrounding jungle, looking for monkeys, birds, and learning about the ecosystems and more.
In the afternoon, we will visit nearby Machu Wasi to catch some wildlife in action. Machu Wasi is an Oxbow lake, meaning it used to be a part of the big river, but is now a serene and secluded area where animals can relax. At the lake, there are balsa rafts to ride around the lake, and paths for hiking. After dinner in the lodge, we'll search for creepy crawlies like tarantulas and frogs on a night walk.
Nature starts early, and so will we. We will depart the lodge very early in the morning to take a 45-minute boat ride to a parrot clay lick. Here we hope to see flocks of green parrots having their morning clay feast for breakfast. When they've had their fill we'll head back to land and begin the journey back to Cusco. Along the way, we'll stop at different places in the cloud forest to walk, search for animals, and marvel at the incredible views. You'll be back in Cusco for dinner which is not included in the price, though we have some great tips of restaurants to visit.
